Wis\u0142a is the second ski centre after Szczyrk Beskid Szl\u0105ski and one of the largest ski resorts in Poland – with 15,000 hotel beds. The high season lasts from the beginning of December to the end of March.<\/span><\/p>\n

History of the resort<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Wisla turned into a resort village in the middle of the 19th century. Outstanding Polish writers, such as Maria Konopnicka, Wladislaw Reymont and Boles\u0142aw Prus, often gathered here for recreation and creativity. They were attracted not only by the cosy atmosphere of the resort but also by the peculiar local dialect, which included a large number of Old Polish words.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mass building of the slopes began in the 60s of the 20th century. The first boarding houses appeared here, with futuristic architecture for those years. Wisla received city status in 1962. Thanks to huge investments in the development of tourism, it has become one of the most popular ski resorts among Europeans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vistula trails<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The resort includes four districts, each of which has its specifics and advantages.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ski areas:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Cienkow: located in the centre – two parallel kilometre-long strings of ski lifts. The total length of the trails here is more than 3 km, with a height difference of 540 m.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stozek is popular for its giant slalom course with a downhill timing system.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sosz\u00f3w with interesting pistes – for example, the pistes near the large ski lift make a sharp turn in front of the Na Soszowie campsite and then rise to the top along the Polish-Czech border.<\/span><\/p>\n
