The Dutch city of Breda is bustling, lively, old and modern at the same time. It attracts with architecture, many museums, and quite good restaurants with cafes.

The old part of Breda is wonderful: there is a large number of old buildings, bridges, canals, and island buildings right on the water. The local family of Nassau was rich and noble, and many beautiful mansions built for the gentry have survived to this day in the urban area. Their distinguishing feature is the architecture: L-shaped or horseshoe-shaped with a courtyard, decorated with Gothic turrets and cruciform window frames made of stone.
Market Grote Markt – the central square of the city. Here you will see the Grote church of the same name, the main attraction of Breda. The church was built in the Brabant Gothic style. The first stone church in this place appeared in the 15th century, but later the Grotekirk was completed and expanded.
The medieval castle is another iconic building in the city. The fortress was built in Breda in the 12th century. And in the 14th century, the castle was surrounded by a canal and fortified with four towers. Today it houses the Royal Military Academy.
Other popular buildings: Joostkapel, a late Gothic church from the 15th century; a small monument to captain van Levv.
Among modern buildings, two buildings by the architect Herzberger stand out. This is the building of the Chasse theatre and the library, which is also a music school.
Also in Breda, you will find several interesting museums. In addition to the main, city and Bedzhinhof, there is the Image Museum (MOTI), the Maczek Museum with a collection of documents from the Second World War, the Museum of Advertising and Beer Brands, where you can see all kinds of promotional materials starting from 1960.
