Sights of Prague

Prague is a city that you fall in love with without memory and comes again and again. It is one of the largest cities in Central Europe and the capital of Bohemia. Prague is cathedrals, bridges, gilded towers and church domes. This is a medieval centre with cobbled streets and courtyards, countless piers and shops. And at the same time, Prague is a modern and lively city, full of youthful energy, culture, music and gourmet restaurants. A large number of people consider Prague the most beautiful city in Europe.

Entertainment and attractions in Prague

At the time of its inception, Prague was polycentric. Almost at the same time, several settlements arose here. Each of them developed as an independent city, and only in the New Age did they begin to form into a single whole.

Stare Mesto

Stare Mesto is one of the first districts of Prague. Previously, there was a large market here, where merchants settled and did business, wandering between west and east. Like several centuries ago, the Old Town Square is the busiest place in the old town. This is a large complex of fabulous beauty of buildings and architectural monuments of various styles: Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque, and Rococo. The Old Town Hall is the main building. Tourists rush to its tower to admire the most mysterious attraction in the city – the Orloj astronomical clock.

Nove Mesto

Emperor Charles IV, having decided in the 14th century that Prague would become the residence of the Holy Roman Emperors, ordered the expansion of the city and the construction of the Nove Mesto district, which was supposed to connect Stare Mesto and Vysehrad.

Charles Square and Wenceslas Square compete for the right to be called the main attraction and the centre of the new city.

In the New Place, the Church of the Virgin Mary of the Snow, the Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius and the Church of St. Stephen deserve to be visited. Of the non-religious buildings, the National Theater of the Czech Republic is popular with tourists.

Mala Strana

In parallel with the construction of the New Place, the emperor began the improvement of the Lesser Country, located between Prague Castle and the Vltava. Lesser Town is considered one of the most picturesque areas in Prague.

The main attractions of this area are the Wallenstein Palace Complex with five courtyards and a garden, the Kaiserstein Palace, and the Velikovsky and Smirzhitsky Palaces.

Hradcany

In Hradcany is the main attraction of the city, the symbol of the entire state – Prague Castle, the residence of the Czech rulers.

Be sure to visit the Old Royal Palace and St. Vitus Cathedral Strahov Monastery – a special place in Hradcany, founded in the 12th century. In its ancient library, there are 130,000 books and 1,500 early printed editions.

Visegrad

The Vysehrad district competes with Hradcany for the title of the heart of the Czech capital. The visiting card is the fortress of the same name. Here, the first coronation in the history of Prague took place. From the hill on which the fortifications are located, a beautiful view of the city opens.

The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul impresses with its grandeur and interior decoration. At the church, there is the most famous burial place in the republic.
