Shopping in Athens

Athens is a large modern metropolis. Here, old antique gizmos coexist perfectly next to the products of the most fashionable designers and inexpensive brands of clothing, shoes and accessories.

For clothes and shoes of famous but relatively inexpensive brands, go to Ermou Street, the largest shopping street in the Greek capital. From its middle to the end on both sides there are shops Benneton, Zara, Morgan, Marks & Spencer and many others. At the beginning of the street are more expensive luxury brands. The most expensive and fashionable areas for shopping are Glyfada, Kolonaki and Kifisia.

Inexpensive but high-quality things you will find in the Factory Outlet shopping centre. But it is located quite far from the central part of Athens. Attica shopping centre stands out in the centre. Here the prices are higher, but you don’t have to go anywhere.

At quite affordable prices, you can buy them on the street. Patission (clothes, shoes and accessories), in the Plaka area (souvenirs, antiques and jewellery) and st. Monastiraki (traditional tools, accessories, handmade clothes and shoes). There is a large flea market on the last street every Sunday. You can find some fascinating and original gizmos among the heaps of useless trinkets, including relatively inexpensive Greek souvenirs – bed linen, carpets, ceramics, copies of museum exhibits and ancient Greek busts.

For economical shopaholics, it is better to go on vacation in the second half of summer. In Athens, from mid-July to the end of August, there are a lot of sales and prices drop by 50-80%. However, even during the sales, the famous Greek furs cost a lot here, it is better to go to other parts of the country for a fur coat.

Also, be sure to check out St. Athenas. Here you can buy delicious Greek souvenirs – olives and olive oil, feta cheese, honey, Rakia and Metaxa.
